Chaos. Disorder. Panic. My job here is done!!

Like Crazy

I had seen the trailer for this sometime last year and thought it could be a good movie… disappointed to say that it wasn’t.

The whole plot revolves around a British student who falls for an American student, only to be separated from him when she violates her visa.

The two leads, Felicity Jones and Anton Yelchin, were good in their roles of the two lovers but the thing that annoyed me the most about this movie is that it takes place over month’s even years but yet the two of them don’t seem to change. I’m not expecting wrinkles and bags under their eyes but their hair doesn’t even change – pretty sure hair tends to grow over month’s even years!!

The time jumps annoyed me as sometimes you wouldn’t even know they happened until further into the jump and also the frequency of some of the time jumps and the flicking back and forth between the US and the UK!

VERDICT: Maybe worth it if you want a romantic love story to watch.

Underworld: Awakening

I really enjoy the Underworld Saga (not so much Underworld 3) and I was definitely excited to see the fourth.

I know the Underworld films aren’t rated highly but i find them entertaining, which at the end of the day is all that matters and plus these vampires don’t sparkle in the daylight!!!

Glad to see Kate Beckinsale back as Selene as well as the awesome action scenes while dressed in the signature leather outfit!!

VERDICT: I liked Awakening but not as much as the first two but will most definitely be there see future movies.

A Nightmare On Elm Street (2010)

I watched the original a couple of years ago and didn’t think much of it so I wasn’t really expecting much from this one and two things surprised me:

1) How much I liked it. Even better than the original, and

I think why I liked this more than the original was that this version was darker. Robert Englund as Freddy in the original always had a funny side to him while Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy is dark and sadistic.

2) Who the 2 leads characters turned out to be.

I knew who the cast were so I had the leads cast in my head but kept getting surprised when they kept getting killed off leaving the less likely leads, the two I thought would have been the first to die, the stars of the film.

All the death scenes were pretty cool from the first death and leading up to the last death which is an open door to a possible sequel.

VERDICT: Worth a watch once. Maybe even twice or more.

This Means War

I really enjoyed this movie. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, it’s never too mushy, but still does have a few heartfelt moments, and tends to lean more toward the comedy side than the romantic.

The three leads (Tom Hardy, Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine) were cast very well and had great chemistry with each other but all that was often over shadowed by the comedic genius that is Chelsea Handler.

VERDICT: A good movie that can be watched again and most likely worth purchasing.

Abduction

Yeah so I watched this……. 106 minutes of regret!!

This movie has definitely proven to me that Taylor Lautner is no leading man! I would also like to know what Maria Bello, Jason Isaacs and Sigourney Weaver were thinking when they signed onto this film!!!

The two leads (Lautner and Lily Collins) were very very annoying as they were running for their lives but constantly making annoying and very obviously wrong decisions.

A predictable film that was made as a vehicle to display Taylor Lautner and his martial arts skills, that were alright but can’t hold up a film for that long.

I also have no idea why this film is called Abduction as he was never abducted before or during this film (but I wish I was)!!

VERDICT: I would not watch this film again even if I had watched every other film on the face of this earth!!

The Darkest Hour

I watched the trailer for this a while ago and thought it looked like it could be a good movie – glad to say the whole movie was as good as the trailer.

The 4 main cast members (Emile Hirsch, Olivia Thirlby, Max Minghella and Rachael Taylor) were quite good in this film as well as the location. It was refreshing to see the skylines and sites of Russia rather than the same New York/Chicago ones we see in most films.

What makes this different from any other Alien/Creature Invasion film is that they are invisible so it’s interesting to see how they try to counter, find their weaknesses, kill these creatures and survive. The way the creatures also kills us humans looked pretty cool as well.

I was surprised when the film ended because it didn’t feel like the film started that long ago.

VERDICT: Definitely worth a watch at the cinemas or on DVD!!

Hanna

Hanna wasn’t a film I was overly interested in seeing but I am now definitely glad that I did.

I didn’t realize until the end that throughout the entire film my eyes did not wonder off the screen and that it had my attention for all 111 minutes.

Starting out in the beautiful wilderness, and continuing throughout the film with equally visually stunning locations, Hanna brings together incredible character driven action film.

What’s great about Hanna, while being a kick-ass film, gives you characters with stories and depths rather than just pieces on a chess board. Saoirse Ronan, Cate Blanchett and Eric Bana are awesome in their roles especially Saoirse, who is very convincing playing a young woman seeing the world for the first time, but who are also helped by their cast of supporting actors including Jessica Barden as Sophie, who brings a little comedy to the movie.

Along with its great cast (including Cate Blanchett, who was voted #2 Best Villain in Empires review of 2011 for her portrayal of Marissa), locations and action scenes (including The Subway Knife Fight, which came in #3 in Empires Best Fights of 2011) part of what makes Hanna great is it’s soundtrack scored originally and completely by The Chemical Brothers and fits in perfectly with the scenes right through the film.

Hanna is most certainly worth watching even buying, the soundtrack as well!!
